Video Resurfaces of Spain’s Lamine Yamal Celebrating Morocco’s World Cup Win

A video has been causing controversy in Spain again since the call-up of Lamine Yamal to the national team. It shows the young player of Moroccan origin celebrating Morocco’s victory over Spain in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar.
This video resurfaced on social media after Lamine Yamal’s call-up to the Spanish national team. The images show the Barcelona prodigy, wearing a Moroccan jersey, celebrating Morocco’s penalty shootout victory over Spain at the World Cup in Qatar.
The video is provoking many criticisms from Spanish internet users who claim not to understand the 16-year-old striker’s decision to play for the Spanish team that he was mocking a few months ago. "They’re going to call up a kid who, when Morocco eliminated Spain from the World Cup, mocked his Spanish teammates," an internet user was outraged.
A few months ago, Lamine Yamal’s father had also attacked militants of the far-right party Vox. The incident had been brought under control thanks to the rapid intervention of the police, recalls La Razón.
Lamine Yamal’s exceptional performance, the youngest player to make his debut in La Liga with Barça, has probably earned him this opportunity to join the Spanish national team at just 16 years old, to the detriment of Morocco who was also very interested in the young striker.
