Repeat Offender Sentenced to 5 Years for Violent Attack on Partner in Montpellier

The Montpellier Criminal Court sentenced a young Moroccan to five years in prison, including one with probation, for aggravated violence against his partner. He is a repeat offender.
In addition to the prison sentence, Khalil, a 27-year-old repeat offender, will be banned from appearing in Hérault upon his release from prison and will have to work or undergo training and compensate his victim. The facts for which the young Moroccan, who arrived in France at the age of 13, was convicted date back to February 16, 2022. That day, he had tried to slit the throat and disfigure his 22-year-old partner. The emergency services had found her in a stairwell near the Route de Lavérune, lying in a pool of blood, reports Midi Libre.
On Thursday, the victim recounted what had happened that day during the trial that took place before the Montpellier Criminal Court. "That day, I didn’t want to see him, but he threatened me and went up the stairs," she explained. "Don’t touch me, leave me alone," she told her partner, according to a neighbor who was behind her door. The latter claims to have then heard "a cry of pain". "He swept me off my feet, took out his cutter and opened me on the neck and hand," the victim also explains. This cleaning lady gets away with "multiple bruises (having been noted) on the four limbs," without the possibility of returning to work. Fearing that she would file a complaint: her ex-partner threatens her in a post on a social network: "Don’t file a complaint."
At the bar, Khalil, this young man already sentenced to two years in prison for aggravated violence in 2019, denies the facts. "She’s lying, I didn’t hit her, it’s her who pushed me." His statement is far from convincing. According to a witness, he had already hit his partner in 2021, threatening to burn her face with acid and had also sent her photos of burned dolls. Facts that do not exonerate this young Moroccan who suffers, according to the psychiatric expert, from an "immature personality".
