Repeat Offender Sentenced to Prison for Domestic Violence in Bergerac

A 42-year-old Moroccan, residing in Bergerac, was sentenced to two years in prison for domestic violence by the judicial court of the city, on Thursday, April 20. This is the third time the defendant has been prosecuted for violence against his wife, although the latter did not join as a civil party.

The report of the facts was made by the victim’s sisters, who reside in Morocco, through the association Femmes Solidaires, on April 18, reports the newspaper Sud Ouest. Upon their arrival, the law enforcement officers discovered that the victim had a bruise on her left eye and the children explained that their father was hitting their mother on the back and face. However, during the hearing, the victim claimed to have fallen in the shower while cleaning and persisted in her version, probably out of fear of seeing her two children placed. The messages she had sent to her sisters on April 15 nevertheless confirmed that she had suffered violence.

Prosecutor Sylvie Guedes stated that the defendant had not understood anything from the two previous convictions and that the victim did not trust the justice system to tell the truth, manipulating the children, who are in danger. The defendant, for his part, claimed to have worked on himself since 2018, but did not explain why he could not refrain from hitting.

The court decided to follow the prosecutor’s requisitions, sentencing the defendant to two years
