Renowned Moroccan Artist Abdelkader Ababou Dies at 70

The multi-talented artist Abdelkader Ababou died on Monday, January 20, at the University Hospital Center of Marrakech, at the age of 70.
Abdelkader Ababou had been admitted on Saturday, January 12, to the University Hospital Center of Marrakech, after suffering a fainting spell.
He was an artist with multiple talents, excelling in poetry, art criticism, writing and the stage. Upon the announcement of his death, tributes abound. For Bouhcine Massoud, the president of the Moroccan Union of Performing Arts Professionals, "he was one of the great men of the Moroccan theater, and his death is a great loss for the national artistic landscape. He was one of the Moroccan artistic stars who shone in the historic troupe of Anouar Sous".
"Ababou was one of the pillars and pioneers of the Moroccan theatrical movement. A man and artist faithful to his ideas, his artistic choices and his theater. Despite the distances that separate the city of Agadir from the center, the deceased had created his own experience which had given him a radiance beyond the borders," confided to actu24, the playwright and director, Meskini Sghir.
Abdelkader Ababou was born in 1950, in Dar Ould Zidouh in the Beni Mellal region. The artist was a graduate of the Institute of Technical Affairs. In 1985, he joined the Union of Moroccan Writers.
