Renault signs a strategic agreement in Morocco to produce its future electrified models

The Renault automotive group is about to take a major new step in its industrial development in Morocco. An agreement, signed on Wednesday, October 29, with the Ministry of Industry, commits the group to a profound transformation of its local ecosystem, focused on electrification and research.

This new agreement, covering the period 2025-2030, provides for the creation of 7,500 direct and indirect jobs. It initiates a new phase of development that will begin in the short term with the renewal of current models, such as the Dacia Sandero, Logan and Jogger.

The main novelty in the short term is the introduction of a hybrid version of the Sandero Stepway, the launch of which on the European market is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. In the medium term, the transformation will be more profound. The Moroccan factories will welcome a new range of electrified vehicles, based on a new platform, which will be produced by 2030. This strategic shift will be accompanied by a modernization of the industrial tool and a skills development plan for the teams.

Renault will create an engineering and R&D center in Morocco

The most significant announcement of this agreement is the creation, as of 2025, of "Renault Technologie Maroc". This will be an engineering center entirely dedicated to research and development, which will be led by Moroccan teams to participate in the design of future vehicles produced in the Kingdom.

This center will have a dual strategic location: a headquarters in Tétouan Offshore, focused on new technologies such as artificial intelligence and batteries, and a center integrated into the Tangier plant to ensure synergy with production. This addendum is part of the continuity of a partnership that has already made it possible to reach a local integration rate of 65.5% in 2024.

The objective is now to bring this rate to 80% by 2030, for a local purchasing volume reaching 3 billion euros, compared to 2.39 billion in 2024. This strategy, which aims to attract new equipment manufacturers, will be based on a production capacity that must exceed 500,000 vehicles per year by the end of 2025, consolidating Morocco’s position in Renault’s international strategy.
