Renault Morocco production Spanish factories strike

For the first time since the 1970s, the Valladolid and Palencia sites have experienced work stoppages. Facing a deadlock over the collective agreement, management could cancel the production of six new models, as reported by El Debate. Spain’s Ministry of Industry even had to intervene to try to restart negotiations.

If the situation doesn’t break, the diamond-branded company will rely on Tangier. Located less than fourteen kilometers from European coasts, this ecological and carbon-neutral plant ships its vehicles within forty-eight hours via the imposing Tangier Med port. With a capacity of 340,000 units, it already produces models for export, including hybrid powertrains.

The Somaca plant, based in Casablanca, offers another strategic alternative. Created in 1959 by the Moroccan government, this facility now presents very low manufacturing costs thanks to fully amortized investments. It has an annual capacity of 160,000 cars, mainly Dacia models and the Renault Kardian intended for the domestic market.

Pressure on European automotive industry will intensify further in the coming months. The manufacturer is preparing the opening of a third industrial complex in Nador, backed by the new Nador Med port, with assembly lines specifically dedicated to electric vehicles.
