Renault Morocco Maintains Market Lead Despite Pandemic, Produces Over 277,000 Vehicles in 2020

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the year 2020 was prosperous for the Renault group in Morocco. On Tuesday, the group’s managing director, Marc Nassif, announced that the two factories produced a total of 277,474 vehicles, including 209,769 produced by the Tangier plant and 67,705 by the Renault Casablanca Somaca plant.

The Renault Morocco Group has managed to maintain its leading commercial position, maintaining for the 4th consecutive year more than 40% of the industrial market share, positioning itself at the head of the automotive sector in Morocco, said Marc Nassif, during an online press conference, dedicated to the presentation of the Group’s 2020 results.

According to the figures announced by the official, exports reached 247,951 vehicles during the past year, a decrease of 30% compared to 2019. He also reported that the Tangier plant exported 197,336 vehicles, or nearly 94% of its production, while Somaca exported 75% of its production, or 50,615 vehicles.

The two factories, according to the director, "will welcome the new Dacia generation (New Sandero, Sandero Stepway in Tangier and Somaca, and Logan in Somaca)". But it is the Tangier plant that has been entrusted with the task of manufacturing the new Renault Express for the first time. "This clearly makes us optimistic and we hope that international demand will pick up again," he said, before specifying that for the Renault Group, Morocco is a central player in the new "Renaulution" strategic plan.

While production has taken a leap forward, so has the sales sector. The Managing Director of Renault Commerce Maroc, Fabrice Crevola, indicated that the year was relatively satisfactory for Renault Commerce Maroc. "The Group was able to maintain its leadership in the market with a combined share of 41.1% in 2020 and the Dacia and Renault brands maintain 1st and 2nd place respectively in the ranking".

He also indicated that more than 57,000 services were sold to customers of the Renault and Dacia brands, up 11% compared to 2019. Finally, he specified that more than 100,000 customer maturities affected by the coronavirus pandemic have been deferred.
