Renault Halts Production in Morocco, Lays Off 11,000 Workers Amid Coronavirus Crisis

Starting Thursday, March 19, until further notice, the Renault Group Morocco is stopping its activities on its two production sites based in Tangier and Casablanca. 11,000 employees are thus temporarily laid off due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a press release published on Tuesday, the group said that "certain functions of the Group whose physical presence is not essential to the proper functioning of the activity, will resort to remote work". Beyond the strict application of the health measures recommended by the Moroccan Ministry of Health, and in order to ensure the health of the Group’s employees, "specific devices as well as preventive measures have been deployed internally since the beginning of the crisis".
The Group says it is "closely monitoring the situation and is ready to react quickly to any changes in the application of new measures introduced by the Moroccan public authorities". Regarding the restart of production activity, "it will take place as soon as the conditions allow it".
The Renault Group Morocco "will implement the appropriate measures to respond effectively to the demand of customers in the Kingdom and internationally".
