Record 2.8 Million Moroccan Expats Return Home for Marhaba 2022 Campaign

Nearly 2.8 million Moroccans residing abroad returned to Morocco during the Marhaba 2022 campaign, up from the level recorded before the pandemic. Among them, several thousand have already returned to their country of residence.
Taking stock at the midpoint of the operation, during the work of the 9th meeting of the ministerial commission for the affairs of Moroccans residing abroad, Aziz Akhannouch praised the commitment of all the structures that contributed to this performance.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister urged the departments and establishments concerned, as well as the finance and business sectors, to accelerate the deployment of concrete programs to promote the situation of Moroccans of the world, whether outside or within the borders of the Kingdom. "One of the priorities at the current stage is the consolidation of the cultural and spiritual attachment of Moroccans residing abroad, as well as their effective involvement in the new Investment Charter," he stressed.
More than a million Moroccans residing abroad have left Morocco through Spain
Started on July 15, the return phase of the Marhaba 2022 operation continues until September 15. According to the official figures of the Spanish Civil Protection, relayed by the EFE agency, 1.06 million Moroccans residing abroad have already left the Kingdom through Spain.
More precisely, 248,452 vehicles have transited between the Moroccan and Spanish ports, thanks to the 3,799 crossings operated by the shipping companies. The Tangier Med-Algeciras line recorded the highest influx, accounting for more than 39.7% of all the connections provided as part of the Marhaba operation.
