Moroccan Diaspora Return Surges: Almeria Port Sees 38% Increase in Traffic

More than 130,000 Moroccans living abroad and 57,300 vehicles have already transited through the port of Almeria, as of August 22nd, as part of the return phase of the Marhaba Operation 2022, an increase of 38.2% and 37.3% respectively compared to 2019.
The busiest flow was recorded last Saturday with the arrival in Almeria of 9,317 Moroccans living abroad and 2,072 vehicles from Morocco. Thursday, August 18th and Monday, August 22nd were also days of high traffic with the passage of more than 8,000 Moroccans living abroad.
The Almeria-Nador link absorbed 60% of the total traffic, compared to 33% for Melilla. The Marhaba Operation started on June 15th and ends on September 15th. The return phase began on August 15th and allows Moroccans living abroad at the end of their vacation in Morocco to return to their cities of residence in Europe.
