Record Cannabis Seizure Sète Port Morocco Over 1 Ton
Over one ton of cannabis was seized on Sunday at Sète port. The drugs were found in a heavy goods vehicle that had just been unloaded from a ship arriving from Morocco.
The operation took place in the afternoon of May 24, at the arrival of the Excelsior ferry from GNV company. Gendarmes present on the docks immediately targeted a truck with an Italian registration plate. As reported by Midi Libre, inspection of this vehicle uncovered a large quantity of drugs, with military personnel confiscating over one thousand kilos of illicit goods on board.

This major operation was no coincidence. It resulted from prior intelligence and coordination work between customs authorities on both sides of the Mediterranean. An investigation is now underway to shed light on this matter, with the number of arrests remaining unknown for now.

This is a seizure of unprecedented scale in recent years for this type of drug in Sète’s facilities. However, the port made headlines in May 2025 with the discovery of 57.9 kilos of cocaine, valued at 2.5 million euros, hidden in a Liberian bulk carrier transporting Brazilian soy.
