Real Madrid's Marvel: Moroccan-Born Defender Could Follow Hakimi's Path to Atlas Lions

Compared to Austrian international David Alaba, the 19-year-old Moroccan, Marvel, a central defender at Real Madrid, could one day join the Atlas Lions like Achraf Hakimi, a few years ago.

Born in Casablanca to Nigerian parents, Marvelous Antolin Garzon, better known as Marvel, is a 19-year-old player who impresses with his talent. Strong, fast, technically gifted, he fits the profile of a perfect modern central defender, describes football espana. The central defender has notably passed through Atletico Madrid, Alcala, Rayo Vallecano, before returning to Real Madrid. Recently, he has renewed his contract with the Merengues which runs until 2025, with a substantial release clause. According to the Spanish club, he could join the senior team.

In a statement to the relevo.com website, his under-19 coach, Dani Poyato, believes that the central defender plays more or less the same way as one of Real Madrid’s current stars, David Alaba, also of Nigerian father. "Marvel is the closest thing to Alaba you can find. A left-footed central defender who can also play wide. Sure to bring the ball out from the back, [he has] an imposing physique, ideal for duels." Marvel has also trained with the senior team on several occasions with former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane and has replaced Alaba in the squad for their trip to Cacereno.

Summoned three times by the Spanish national team, Marvel could also play for Nigeria and Morocco. The latter could negotiate and have him in the Atlas Lions squad if he continues to shine.
