Rape Investigation Launched in Melilla After Assaults on Moroccan Nationals

A sex scandal broke out on Tuesday, May 26, in the Spanish enclave of Melilla. Moroccan nationals, housed in the mosque and near the city’s cemetery, were sexually assaulted by the officials.
The victims, who were confined inside the Ouriach mosque and the Muslim cemetery, were raped in turn, reports the local press.
The Spanish police took action on Tuesday morning. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of these assaults and the involvement of the mosque officials.
The Moroccan government had started, on Friday, May 15, the operation to return the 500 Moroccan nationals blocked in Melilla. After the repatriation of a first group, the operation was suspended following a disagreement with the Spanish authorities.
