Racist Attack in Southern France: Elderly Man Assaulted with Hammer, Suspects at Large

A sexagenarian of Maghrebi origin was the victim of serious violence in Le Cannet (Alpes-Maritimes), in southern France. His lawyer denounces an assault "with an obvious racist motive". The police are conducting an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the assault and arrest one of the assailants currently on the run.
The events took place on October 14, 2023. "This sexagenarian was the victim of serious violence, having been beaten with fists and with a hammer that one of the assailants was carrying," says Guez Guez Sefen, the victim’s lawyer in a statement. The assailants are two in number. "In broad daylight and in front of several witnesses, he was insulted and threatened with death first in French then in Arabic, a language that the two assailants, who were apparently of Jewish origin, mastered," the lawyer at the Nice bar assures. "Dirty Arab, I’ll cut you to pieces and send you to Jerusalem!" the two assailants allegedly told him. Shortly afterwards, Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) agents who were near the scene of the assault were able to arrest one of the assailants. As for the second, he managed to flee by car, a white van.
The victim spent nearly 10 hours in the hospital for medical examinations, and a forensic physician noted his injuries, the same source specifies. Through his lawyer, he filed a complaint for "assault with an obvious racist character". "This assault occurring in a particularly troubled national and international context calls for a firm response from the judicial authorities against the assailants of this vulnerable person," affirms
