Arab Bastard": Barbaric and Racist Assault on a 17-Year-Old Minor in Lyon

According to the initial investigation, the victim was struck on several parts of his body. The assailants shaved his eyebrows and used a razor to lacerate his face, inflicting scars on his chin, cheek, and forehead. The Lyon public prosecutor’s office announced that the minor was given a total work interruption of five days due to his injuries.

The victim stated to the investigators that he was the target of hateful insults during the attack, with the aggressors using terms such as "Arab bastard" and "dirty Muslim." The Lyon public prosecutor’s office confirmed the opening of an investigation for aggravated violence with three circumstances: premeditation in a group, the use of a weapon, and the motive related to the victim’s real or perceived belonging to an ethnic group or religion.

The investigations have been entrusted to the Interdepartmental Directorate of the National Police to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The Prefect of the Rhône, Fabienne Buccio, has stated that she is closely following the case, expressing her indignation at the nauseating behavior and calling for a surge of awareness in the face of the violence targeting a young man because of his origins.
