Rabat Taxi Drivers Face Backlash Over Selective Service, Sparks Political Debate

The repeated refusals of Rabat taxi drivers to make certain trips are causing a stir. The situation has even taken a political turn, with a parliamentary question tabled in the House of Representatives.
A deputy denounced the behavior of some taxis at the Agdal station. "Contrary to what is practiced in other regions of the kingdom, it has been noted that the drivers of small taxis at the Agdal station choose the destinations that suit them," he lamented.
According to the parliamentarian, these drivers simply refuse to take clients wishing to go to certain neighborhoods, forcing them to take detours and lose precious time. "They behave in a way that is contrary to moral values and act inappropriately without control or supervision," he added.
Faced with this situation, which is detrimental to users, the parliamentarian questioned the government on the measures it intends to take to remedy it. He wants to know if sanctions are planned for unscrupulous drivers and if provisions will be put in place to guarantee a quality taxi service for all citizens.
