Rabat Police Officer Killed in Traffic Stop; Wealthy Suspect Flees Scene

A young policeman died on duty in Rabat, killed by a "Ould Lefchouch" (rich kid) who was trying to flee.
While intervening to arrest a "Ould Lefchouch" who was driving the wrong way in Rabat, a young 24-year-old policeman on duty in the Yacoub Al Mansour district was killed on Saturday, February 16. The rich kid hit the police officer, causing him serious head injuries, reports the daily Assabah. Admitted to the Ibn Sina Multidisciplinary Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. After the incident, the driver fled, but his mother intervened for him to surrender to the police.
During his hearing, the motorist admitted the facts. After being presented to the competent prosecutor’s office, he was placed in pre-trial detention in the El Arjate prison, pending his appearance in court. The charges that could be brought against him are: "involuntary manslaughter" and "hit-and-run after a traffic accident." If found guilty, he faces a heavy prison sentence.
Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security, instructed his collaborators to grant an exceptional posthumous promotion to this young policeman - freshly graduated from the Royal Police Institute of Kenitra - who died on duty.
