Badr Bouljoihel case: death penalty requested

The death penalty has been requested against Ould Lefchouch (rich kid) tried before the Court of Appeal of Casablanca for the murder of Badr Bouljoihel, a 23-year-old man, a doctoral student-researcher at the Faculty of Science and Technology of Mohammedia, killed at the end of July at the exit of a restaurant, in Aïn Diab.
The main suspect in the murder of Badr Bouljoihel risks a lot. During the hearing held on Tuesday, the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Casablanca requested the death penalty against him, reports Hespress. According to the prosecutor, this crime was premeditated. Badr Bouljoihel, a doctoral student-researcher at the Faculty of Science and Technology of Mohammedia, was killed on the night of July 30 in a McDonald’s parking lot in Aïn Diab. In a video circulated on social media, we see individuals inflicting violent blows on the 23-year-old young man. One of the attackers, the owner of a large Audi Q8 4x4, gets into his vehicle to run over the young Badr. This horrible crime had shaken Aïn Diab, an upscale neighborhood of Casablanca.

"You will assume responsibility for your past and present actions towards those you have killed," the Attorney General said, addressing the "Ouled Fchouch", thus referring to a fatal accident in which he was involved a few years ago. In 2018, he had been sentenced to 7,500 dirhams for involuntary manslaughter, as well as two other fines of 300 dirhams each. Dissatisfied with this judgment, the Public Prosecutor’s Office had appealed at the time. This is how in 2019, the rich kid saw his sentence increased. He had been sentenced to one year in prison, a fine of 30,000 dirhams and the withdrawal of his driver’s license for a period of two years. Except that this judgment is not yet final, so it has not yet been executed. The victim’s father is a retired police officer. After learning that Ould Lefchouch is the alleged murderer of the young doctoral student Badr, he called for the reopening of the judicial investigation into the accident involving his son.
The prosecutor also requested the same sentence against another defendant who admitted to being at the wheel of the car when Badr was run over. According to him, Ould Lefchouch and he are both responsible for Badr’s murder. The day after the tragedy, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) had announced the arrest by the judicial police of Casablanca, in coordination with their counterparts in Laâyoune, of the main suspect. Four other suspects were later arrested. The arrest of the five accused took place separately in Laâyoune as they were trying to flee abroad. They are all accused of voluntary homicide and the constitution of a criminal gang.
