Casablanca Murder Trial Postponed as Court Seeks Witness Testimony

The case of the murder of Badr Bouljoihel, a 23-year-old man, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Science and Technology in Mohammedia, killed at the end of July 2023 as he was leaving a restaurant in Aïn Diab, Casablanca, is far from having its epilogue.
On Monday, the Criminal Chamber of Appeal at the Court of Appeal of Casablanca postponed the examination of this case to February 10 in order to summon the witnesses of the police report. The hearing was marked by a communication, via videoconference, with the accused, in particular Achraf. S. nicknamed "Oueld Fchouch (rich kid)", the main accused in this murder, currently incarcerated in the local prison of Oukacha. He was sentenced to the death penalty. He was prosecuted for premeditated murder, attempted premeditated murder, participation in a theft and use of violence and various other crimes.
The accused Amin R., who had declared himself to be the driver of the vehicle that had hit the young Badr, was sentenced to life imprisonment. Abderrafik Z. was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The Criminal Chamber of First Instance also sentenced the accused Ahmed S. to 20 years in prison. As for Hamid A., the brother-in-law of the main accused who transported the accused to the city of Laâyoune before their arrest by the security forces, he was sentenced to five years in prison.
Badr Bouljoihel, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Science and Technology in Mohammedia, was killed on the night of July 30 in a McDonald’s parking lot in Aïn Diab. In a video circulated on social networks, we can see individuals inflicting violent blows on the 23-year-old young man. One of the aggressors, the owner of a large Audi Q8 4x4, gets into his vehicle to run over the young Badr. This horrible crime had shaken Aïn Diab, an upscale neighborhood in Casablanca. The day after the tragedy, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced the arrest by the judicial police of Casablanca, in coordination with their counterparts in Laâyoune, of the main suspect.
