Rabat: High-tech toilets at 20 million dirhams for the CAN, access limited to 10 minutes

Rabat is deploying its smart toilets starting Saturday in preparation for the 2025 CAN. This futuristic system guarantees total hygiene through self-cleaning, but imposes a strict rule on users: access costs one dirham and is limited to a maximum of ten minutes.

The user experience will now be timed. The new sanitary facilities have control buttons that set the occupancy time to ten minutes per person. This system aims to streamline the flow while offering contactless technologies for cleaning and paper distribution. The equipment also includes metal bars and meets accessibility standards for people with disabilities.

Access to this modernized service will cost a symbolic one dirham. The units will operate daily over a wide time slot, from seven in the morning to two in the morning. The health promise is based on a self-cleaning and self-disinfection cycle systematically triggered after each passage, ensuring constant cleanliness throughout the day.

The actual deployment begins this Saturday at ten strategic and tourist sites in the capital. This project is part of the upgrading of public spaces for the 2025 Morocco Africa Cup of Nations. The overall investment is close to 20 million dirhams, an envelope that includes the construction, technological equipment and maintenance of these new generation cabins.
