Pyramid Scheme Targeting Women in Tetouan Promises Easy Money, Delivers Fraud

These pyramid selling networks make their potential victims believe that it is possible to earn money without working. They just have to pay a sum to join the system and then wait a few weeks to start enjoying the benefits, reports the daily Al Akhbar.

The perpetrators of this fraud network have targeted women in Tetouan and its surroundings, whom they have managed to massively enroll in the system. Each new member must deposit the sum of 800 dirhams into the account of an anonymous association and can collect a profit of 10,000 dirhams after two weeks, if she manages to get other people to join.

This form of fraud is based on the continuous recruitment of new members and only benefits the initiators of this pyramid system. Generally, the system stops working as soon as there are no more new members and the perpetrators of these networks disappear into thin air with the gains of their victims.

The police services of Tetouan and its surroundings have opened an investigation to identify the perpetrators of this new form of scam and limit the number of victims. For the moment, the investigators are tracing the videos published by groups of women on WhatsApp to make the network known in order to recruit new victims. The investigation is ongoing.
