Protester Climbs Electricity Pole in Morocco, Waves US Flag and Demands UN Intervention
Saturday 1 June 2019, by
This happened in Boujdour, early this week, near the municipality. A man in his thirties climbed an electricity pole with a pre-written claim notebook, an American flag, a letter written (in large letters and in English) to the UN, and suicide threats. And he began a sit-in, perched on the pole.
This man was asking Uncle Sam and the UN to intervene to find a solution to his social situation. The media Kech24, which describes him as "a activist working in civil society", indicates that he was asking for a job and a decent life.
The authorities arrived on the scene and dissuaded him from committing suicide. The negotiations would have been fruitful since the man came down on his own. Kech24 writes in this sense: "The thirty-year-old was wearing the flag of the United States of America, as well as a letter addressed to the United Nations to intervene in the settlement of his social problems, before this idea was abandoned following difficult negotiations with representatives of the local authorities".
