Morocco Bolsters Air Defense with Lockheed Martin F-16s and Patriot Systems

American manufacturer Lockheed Martin has announced the supply of F-16 fighter jets to Morocco, as well as Patriots and other long-range air defense systems.
Lockheed Martin made this announcement during a visit to Morocco, at the initiative of the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), reports Atalayar. On this occasion, Joseph Rank, Executive Director of Lockheed Martin for Africa and Saudi Arabia, signed the agreement for the supply of Patriot long-range air defense systems for the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
The order also includes F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters and Sikorsky helicopters, as well as radars and integrated air and missile defense technologies, he specified. Joseph Rank also reaffirmed "Lockheed Martin’s firm commitment to support Morocco’s industrial and defense objectives, while establishing a solid foundation for future collaboration."
"As part of the implementation of Law No. 10-20 relating to defense and security equipment and materials, weapons and ammunition, which aims to develop a strong national defense industrial base, the global company is committed to supporting the Kingdom’s vision of encouraging local innovation, strengthening independence and providing world-class defense capabilities," the American manufacturer said in a press release.
Rabat and Washington continue to strengthen their defense cooperation. The two allies organize African Lion, the largest military exercise in Africa, each year. They also maintain excellent bilateral relations. In December 2020, President Donald Trump, at the end of his first term, recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. If he returns to the White House, the Republican could fulfill his promise to open an American consulate in Dakhla, in the Moroccan Sahara.
