Prominent Moroccan Plastic Surgeon Detained in Medical Fraud Investigation

The famous plastic surgeon El Hassan Tazi reacted to his alleged involvement in a case of "fraud and forgery and use of forgeries in connection with medical bills". He is currently detained in the Oukacha prison in Casablanca.

Last Sunday, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced that the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) had the day before referred eight individuals, including a woman and the owner of a private clinic, to the competent prosecutor’s office for their alleged involvement in a case of "fraud and forgery and use of forgeries in connection with medical bills".

The investigation carried out by the police revealed the involvement of the accused in the constitution of a criminal gang that collected sums of money from benefactors, under the pretext of paying the hospitalization costs of needy patients treated in the clinic, where the majority of the suspects work. According to the DGSN, they fraudulently inflated the bills in order to extort large sums of money from donors. The investigations proved fruitful. The main defendant, who maintained contacts with the alleged patients and took photos of them under the pretext of helping them, was arrested.

The DGSN did not reveal the identity of the accused, but it is notably the famous plastic surgeon El Hassan Tazi nicknamed "the doctor of the poor". This has provoked a strong reaction from him. "Rumors are created by enemies, spread by fools and accepted by idiots," the doctor declared on Instagram. He accompanied his post with a verse from the Quran: "Those who believe and do good deeds... truly We do not let the reward of one who does good be lost" (Surat al-Kahf 18:30).

Reversal of the situation. On the orders of the investigating judge of the Casablanca Court of Appeal, five managers and employees of the plastic surgery clinic of El Hassane Tazi were placed in detention this week in the Oukacha prison, reports Al
