Prominent Moroccan Notary Arrested in $10 Million Embezzlement Scandal

The National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) has just apprehended one of the most famous notaries in the city of Kenitra. He would be involved in a case of embezzlement of more than 100 million dirhams belonging to his clients.
Arrested at his home, the notary was taken to the BNPJ headquarters in Casablanca. He will have to answer the many complaints filed against him, on the instructions of the public prosecutor near the Court of Appeal of Kenitra. Indeed, many individuals, companies and institutions accuse the man of having squandered their property in dubious and fanciful transactions, involving real estate and land. The victims first tried the amicable settlement route before referring to the courts, reports Al Massae.
In addition to the notary, this case could splash real estate developers "who have managed to get rich in record time, by carrying out suspicious, even purely fictitious sales". The public prosecutor’s office has received more than 60 complaints, but 48 have been withdrawn after mediation by influential people. 12 cases remain pending before the public prosecutor’s office against the incriminated notary, however "very well known in the city for his charitable and charitable actions".
Apart from the 32 million dirhams recovered by a local bank, equivalent to the sale price of a plot of land that the notary held as a guarantee deposit with the institution, "the other assets held by the notary have been seized as a precautionary measure", specifies the same source.
