Moroccan Notary Faces Fraud Charges Over $90,000 Real Estate Deal

A notary in Azrou was prosecuted for breach of trust and fraud. His client, a real estate developer, accuses him of having diverted funds intended to obtain a bank release.
In order to finalize the sale of a commercial premises, the developer had handed over the sum of 900,000 dirhams to the notary, in order to recover the bank release and obtain the cancellation of the mortgage with the Land Registry.
The commitment would not have been respected by the notary, who refuses to this day to respond to the client’s calls, reports the site Kech24. According to the developer, the notary had limited himself to making an official request, without handing over the check to the bank. The man is therefore unable to finalize the deed of sale.
Before resorting to justice, the victim had to exhaust all amicable solutions. For the time being, the notary is still trying to evade justice, by ignoring the summons to appear, addressed by the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Meknes.
