Moroccan Notary Faces Trial for Alleged $10 Million Fraud Scheme in Kenitra

The court of first instance of Kenitra is dealing with the case of the famous notary from the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region accused of embezzling 100 million dirhams. He is the subject of 80 complaints from individuals, companies and institutions for fraud.
The official report of the notary’s appearance before the first deputy prosecutor of the king at the court of first instance of Kenitra indicates that the notary was unable to provide explanations or justify the acts he would have committed or even to acknowledge a dozen offenses and crimes that are blamed on him, reports Al Massae.
However, "the notary has undertaken to reimburse the embezzled money to its owners... But it is just as if he did not justify the fact of not having deposited all the money received from his clients in the Deposit and Management Fund, as stipulated by law, by the fact that part of these sums was deposited in a client account, which he had in a local bank," the report specifies. The notary’s defense has requested his release but has met with the judge’s categorical refusal.
In mid-July, the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) had arrested the accused at his home and taken him to the BNPJ headquarters in Casablanca. On the instructions of the prosecutor of the king near the Court of Appeal of Kenitra, he had answered the many complaints filed against him. He is accused of having taken the money from the plaintiffs in dubious real estate transactions. At the request of the plaintiffs’ lawyers, the case could go to court in September.
