Predator Oil & Gas Resumes Drilling in Eastern Morocco After COVID Pause

The British company Predator Oil & Gas announced the resumption of drilling operations on its Guercif I to IV project, in eastern Morocco. A decision motivated by the easing of Covid-19 restrictions and the reopening of borders.
Suspended in April 2020, this drilling campaign resumed on Sunday, is scheduled to last 20 days in accordance with the 2019 schedule, indicates a press release from the company. The document specifies that the potentially existing reservoirs in the Moulouya prospect have the potential to generate good well productivity without any stimulation.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Predator Oil & Gas, adds that the drilling infrastructure is ready and that the program initially aims to drill a prospect on the Moulouya-1 well which will reach a depth of 2,000 m. The well is located on a trend from which the company SDX Energy has discovered several deposits in the region.
To recall, the Guercif project covers an area of 7,269 km² and is located about 250 kilometers east of the Gharb basin. Predator Oil & Gas holds 75% of the Guercif project and operates in a joint venture with the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines of Morocco (ONHYM) which controls the remaining 25%.
"We are delighted to have completed the mobilization of the drilling rig, its installation and to have safely launched the drilling of the MOU-1 well in full compliance with the pre-drilling schedule. We are very grateful to the many people within the company and in particular those under contract with the company who have worked together as a team to execute the launch of the drilling program. We are also grateful for the unwavering support provided by our partner ONHYM to facilitate the start of operations," commented Paul Griffiths.
Ultimately, the gas from the Guercif permits could be used in the long term to supply another Predator project, which is to install a liquefaction plant.
