PPG Opens Automotive Paint Plant in Tangier to Supply Renault Factories

The American group PPG, which notably markets automotive paint products, announced on Thursday the start-up of its plant in Tangier.
As a global leader in materials in the automotive paint market, the American group aims in Morocco to supply the Renault plants in Tangier and Casablanca with automotive coatings, according to a statement from the company’s management.
"The start-up of this facility is an important step in the local supply of original equipment automotive manufacturers in Morocco," said Roald Johannsen, PPG Vice President of Automotive Coatings for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
He added that "the country is already one of the largest and fastest growing vehicle producers in Africa. Vehicle production is expected to increase significantly, with two additional production facilities expected to be added by 2030."
The manager mentions automotive production in the kingdom, which has gone from 100,000 vehicles in 2000 to around 400,000 vehicles in 2019. Production is expected to reach 700,000 vehicles by 2023, he said, adding that the new Tangier plant will produce sealants that will allow greater flexibility in vehicle design and manufacturing.
Furthermore, the company is evaluating the local production of additional adhesive, sealant and coating technologies to supply the automotive manufacturers expanding their production in Morocco, the statement said.
