Pompeo to Visit Morocco, Discuss Israel Relations and Regional Partnerships

Mike Pompeo is expected in Rabat - barring last-minute changes to his schedule - this Wednesday, December 4, 2019. During this official visit, the US Secretary of State intends to discuss the normalization of relations with Israel.
"Morocco, which maintains close relations with Israel, plays an important role in the region as an important partner in promoting tolerance," a US State Department official told AFP. It is also "one of the United States’ most powerful partners in several areas, including the fight against terrorism."
The same source said the US Secretary of State would arrive in Rabat on December 4. During this first visit by a senior US official since the election of President Donald Trump in 2016 to Morocco, a tête-à-tête will take place between King Mohammed VI and Mike Pompeo.
While Israel only has official relations with Arab countries like Egypt and Jordan, Morocco unofficially allows visits by Israeli investors and tourists to its territory, it is reported. About 3,000 Jews live in the Kingdom.
