Politicians Call for Investigation into Teen’s Death During Police Chase in Brussels

On Monday, April 20, Deputy André Flahaut (PS) and Ecolo called for the referral of the Permanent Committee for the Supervision of Police Services (the P Committee). It will be responsible for examining, in addition to the judicial investigation, the circumstances of the death of the young Adil, last Friday, April 10, in a chase with the police, in the Cureghem district of Anderlecht.
Mr. Flahaut asked the President of the Chamber, Patrick Dewael (Open Vld), to refer the matter to the P Committee, he said in a press release. For the Minister of State and Vice-President of the Chamber of Representatives, it is essential to shed full light on this case and to prevent further tragedies. According to the socialist deputy, "certain information" calls into question the version of the police.
For its part, the Ecolo party says it has officially referred the P Committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the young man’s death in Anderlecht and to bring the truth to light.
"To allow the police teams to function serenely, and to allow Adil’s family and friends to mourn, we collectively have an interest in ensuring that full light is shed on how the police teams worked on the evening of Friday, April 10; hence the interest of the P Committee in such a case," said federal MP Cécile Thibaut.
