Polish Tourist Killed in Tragic Cycling Accident Near Essaouira, Morocco

A Polish tourist was killed in a traffic accident caused by the president of a municipality in Essaouira. She was cycling with her Moroccan friend when they were hit by the vehicle whose driver, according to witnesses, would have lost control.
The tragedy occurred last Wednesday, in the commune of Ounagha near Essaouira. The daily Al Akhbar reports that the Polish national died a few hours after being admitted to the hospital, while her friend is still in intensive care. The driver of the car, who was also seriously injured, was taken to the provincial hospital where he is receiving the necessary care.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the president of the municipality would have lost control of his car. The doctors tried everything to save the tourist but failed. They were even preparing to amputate her two legs when she succumbed to her injuries.
An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the accident. The driver of the car will be questioned as soon as he is able to speak. The province of Essaouira experienced three traffic accidents on the first day of Ramadan, one of which was fatal.
