Polisario Front Open to UN Talks on Western Sahara, Maintains Armed Struggle Option

The Polisario expresses its willingness to resume UN negotiations on the status of Western Sahara but does not give up armed struggle.

"We are ready to negotiate. We are ready for any mediation. But at the same time, we maintain the armed struggle based on past experience," announced a senior official of the "Sahrawi Ministry of Security", Sidi Ould Oukal, during an online press conference co-hosted by the Permanent Representative of the Polisario Front to the UN, Omar Sidi Mohamed.

"In the past, we have placed all our trust in the international community and have definitively stopped the armed struggle. We have waited 30 years. Thirty years of unfulfilled promises, procrastination and unbearable waiting," he lamented, stating that the "Sahrawi people’s" struggle will continue, whether there are negotiations or not.

The Polisario also says it is "in a state of legitimate self-defense war" since the Moroccan army intervened on November 13 to stop its militias who had blocked the only road to neighboring Mauritania.
