Polisario Front Accuses UN of Backing Morocco in Western Sahara Conflict

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the "Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR)", a Polisario official, protected by Algeria, attacked the UN, accusing it of supporting Morocco in its military offensive against the separatist movement’s militias in the Sahara.
"Morocco could not have done what it did without the support of the international community, the support of the UN, the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General," said the "Sahrawi official" Khatri Addouh, during a press conference on Friday in the Sahrawi refugee camps of Tindouf, in southern Algeria.
November 2020 was marked by a resurgence of tensions between Morocco and the Polisario following the evacuation by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) of the Guerguerat crossing point. The Sahrawi militias had blocked this passage for several weeks. Since then, the separatist movement has said it is "in a state of legitimate defense war". Before this episode, there have been no quadripartite peace negotiations (Morocco, Polisario, Algeria and Mauritania) under the auspices of the UN since March 2019.
While the Polisario continues to demand a self-determination referendum, Morocco is moving forward with its Sahara autonomy plan. Several African countries have opened their consulates there. On December 10, the kingdom obtained American recognition of its sovereignty over the Sahara in exchange for the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel. These diplomatic achievements continue to annoy Algeria and its protégé, the Polisario.
"In reality, Trump is just adding problems to the administration that succeeds him, that is, Biden’s," said Khatri Addouh. His wish is that the administration will call this decision into question.
