Polisario Front Claims Attacks on Moroccan Military Sites Near Smara

The Polisario Front has claimed the new explosions that sounded in the afternoon of Saturday in desert areas dozens of kilometers from the city of Smara, located about 200 km east of Laâyoune, in the Sahara.
The Polisario is behind the new explosions against Smara. "The explosions targeted Moroccan military sites around the city," while videos shared on social media showed explosions in a desert area near the residential areas of Smara, report media sources favorable to the Polisario. The city was hit on Saturday afternoon by three explosions. Most of them occurred in desert areas dozens of kilometers from the city, which is located about 200 km east of Laâyoune. No casualties or material damage were reported. Informed, the local authorities, the police, the gendarmes and the military arrived at the sites of the explosions to investigate and take the necessary measures.
This is not the first time that the Polisario has targeted the city of Smara. The ZAP, Hay Essalam, and the industrial districts had been hit by four explosions in late October last year. The toll was one dead (a Moroccan expatriate) and three injured, two of whom were in serious condition. After receiving first aid, they had been transported to the hospital in Laâyoune, 200 km west of Smara, a city of over 66,000 inhabitants. As for the third injured person, slightly injured, he had received first aid on the spot and returned home. The explosions had also damaged two houses. The attack on Smara had occurred a day before the renewal until October 31, 2024 of the mandate of the UN mission in the Sahara (MINURSO).
