Polisario Claims Responsibility for Deadly Explosions in Western Sahara City
Four explosions were heard overnight from Saturday to Sunday in the city of Es-Semara, in the Sahara. The report shows one dead and three injured. The Polisario has claimed responsibility for its attacks.
The ZAP, Hay Essalam, and the industrial district (two explosions) neighborhoods were hit by these four explosions, according to the local authorities of the province of Es-Semara. Among the three injured, two are in serious condition. After receiving first aid, they were transported to the hospital in Laâyoune, 200 km west of Smara, a city of over 66,000 inhabitants. As for the third injured person, lightly injured, he received first aid on the spot and returned home. The explosions also damaged two houses.
For now, the origin of these explosions is unknown. In a statement, the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Laâyoune announced that the competent judicial police have been tasked with conducting a judicial investigation. Also, he entrusted the investigation team with carrying out the necessary technical and ballistic expertise, in order to identify the origin and nature of the projectiles that caused the death of one person and the injury of three others.
The Polisario, through several of its media, has claimed responsibility and expressed satisfaction with its attacks.
