US Plans Military Base in Moroccan Sahara, Raising Regional Tensions

A wind of panic is blowing over Algeria following the announcement of the probable future installation of an American base in the Moroccan Sahara.
The United States is strengthening the recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. In addition to the upcoming opening of a consulate in Dakhla and the launch of major American investment projects in Morocco, they intend to inaugurate a military base in the southern provinces of the kingdom very soon. Sources close to the file had meanwhile confirmed this information to Hespress.
This future "American base" will not only help protect American interests, but also contribute to the reduction of terrorist activities in Africa, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara regions. The Algerian military regime sees this announcement in a bad light and feels threatened.
The American recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara in exchange for the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel has exacerbated tensions between the kingdom and Algeria.
