PJD Leader Accuses Interior Ministry of 'Political Cruelty' in Election List Removals

The removal of several members of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) has angered Saâdeddine El Othmani, the head of government and also the secretary general of the Islamist party. He denounces a "political deception" and "political cruelty" orchestrated by the Ministry of the Interior.

During the presentation of the PJD’s electoral program for the upcoming elections held on July 26, the Islamist leader protested against the decision of the Ministry of the Interior to remove several members of his party from the electoral lists as part of their update in the run-up to the various elections, on the basis of judicial decisions, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. "Several activists of our party have found themselves struck off the electoral lists overnight. They were not informed, and the legislative procedure in force was not respected," he denounced. Among them, the president of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region and the president of the Education Commission in the House of Advisors.

According to the department of Abdelouafi Laftit, this decision is explained by the change of residence of the persons concerned. They did not carry out the necessary administrative procedures within the prescribed time limits. A justification that does not convince the head of government. "This approach surprises us," declared Saâdeddine El Othmani. "[...] We are surprised by this behavior, we refuse the way in which it was applied." He believes that this behavior mainly targets the PJD.
