PJD Women Protest Exclusions from Morocco’s 2021 Election Lists

The women of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) are angry with the Secretary General of their political party, Saâdeddine El Othmani, who is also the Head of Government. The cause is certain exclusions during the establishment of the party’s lists for the upcoming elections.
Exclusions of certain women during the establishment of the party’s lists for the September elections, accreditation of candidates who have already served several parliamentary terms under the PJD banner - which is contrary to the directives of the party’s bodies, refusal to accredit the candidacy of Amina Maelainine, resignation of Amina Sabir, one of the PJD’s leading figures in Mohammedia... Anger is rising among PJD women. They denounce a punishment inflicted on all those who disapprove of the policy adopted by the leadership.
In the eyes of the women of the party, the non-accreditation of Amina Maelainine and several other supporters is an illustration of the policy adopted in recent times within the PJD, which aims to deliberately block the electoral path for certain dissident candidates, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. According to Khadija Abladi, a former PJD supporter, several irregularities were noted during the establishment of the party’s lists. She mentions dysfunctions in the processes at the level of the PJD’s provincial commissions, which have favored "certain names" to the detriment of others.
