Parisian Rooftop Restaurant Faces Backlash Over Israeli Wines Amid Gaza Conflict

The BDS France campaign has sent a letter to the management of Dar Mima, Jamel Debbouze and Laurent de Gourcuff’s Parisian restaurant, in which it expresses its outrage at the sale of Israeli wines by the establishment located on the roof of the Institut du monde arabe.
In its letter dated August 8, 2025, BDS France says it was "shocked" by the sale of Israeli wines on the restaurant’s menu. "This choice is incomprehensible, firstly because these wines are mediocre, and are hardly served anywhere else in Paris, then because Israel is not part of the "Arab world", and finally because we can only imagine that your decision is motivated by political reasons that do not do you credit. The absence of the wine list on your website may be a sign of unease on this issue?".
"The least measure that would contribute to supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people, faced with the injustices they suffer, would be to boycott Israeli products, as called for by Palestinian civil society since 2005, as part of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign, of which we are the relay in France. You are not unaware that among these wines, some come from the Golan, which is a Syrian territory illegally annexed by Israel, and that it is forbidden to exploit the resources of the occupied territories. These wines are therefore simply illegal, and if the law were respected, you could be accused of receiving stolen goods and complicity in the crime of colonization," BDS develops.
For the association, the sale of these wines by Dar Mima in this context of "ongoing genocide in Gaza" "contributes to the war economy, and is an insult to all humanity". For these reasons, BDS asks the restaurant "to remove these wines from your menu as soon as possible".
