Paris Police Investigate 27 Officers for Potential Radicalization Following Fatal Attack

27 officers from the Paris Police Prefecture have been reported for radicalization, following the attack that took place on October 3. To recall, 4 people had been killed by Mickaël Harpon, a computer scientist, agent of the Police Prefecture, who turned out to be radicalized.
Among the 27 police officers, 3 are the subject of a request for suspension by the Prefect of Police, reports BFM, which explains that the Prefect had sent a note to call for vigilance from everyone.
"In the event of detection of signs of possible radicalization of an agent, it is necessary to report it immediately and directly to his hierarchy. Several signs and indicators may justify triggering a reporting procedure, such as physical and clothing changes and diet, the refusal to shake the hand of female staff, a brutal rejection of daily habits," could be read in the Prefect’s note.
According to the channel, the profiles of the reported police officers are rather similar: they are mostly men at the rank of peace officer or officers.
The same source reports that, for certain police unions, it is necessary to facilitate and improve the procedures for reporting radicalization. "These reports must be simplified, anonymized and I think that in these cases we will perhaps be able to move forward a little better," assures Fabien Vanhemelryck, Secretary General of Alliance-Police nationale.
