Muslim Officers Face Scrutiny in French Police After Paris Attack

Sunday 13 October 2019, by Bladi.net

French police officers are torn between fears and suspicions. Since the attack committed on October 3 by one of their colleagues converted to Islam at the Paris Police Headquarters, Muslim agents, in particular, live in fear. The hierarchy has started a purge.

The French police live in deep trauma with, as scapegoats, radicalized agents.

The situation has escalated with the recent attack carried out by one of its officials, who targeted the Paris Police Headquarters, killing several people. Since then, a kind of purge is to be feared within the police.

Emmanuel Macron has also given the measure of the attitude to be adopted from now on. Indeed, during the ceremony honoring the four officials killed in the attack at the Paris Prefecture, the French President called for building "a society of vigilance".

Yet, according to Linda Kebbab, National Delegate of the Unité-SGP-FO Union, "there is no psychosis, but we know that there have been several reports since the attack and colleagues have been questioned by their hierarchy to say if they had doubts about so-and-so".

The worst, according to her, remains a reality: "Colleagues tell us: ’We won’t be scraping the walls’, but they’re afraid of being put on a list by mistake".

The police seem traumatized and desperately seeking, urgently, to detect other radicalized agents.

In the wake of this, the Paris Police Headquarters announced that two police officers in the Paris region have been deprived of their weapons due to suspicions of radicalization.

For their part, the unions did not hesitate to warn the hierarchy against a "witch hunt".

The watchword of the Paris Police Prefect, Didier Lallement, is clear: every police officer has the obligation to "immediately and directly report to his hierarchy" all signs of "possible radicalization".
