Pakistan Seeks to Boost Exports and Narrow $300 Million Trade Gap with Morocco

Pakistan plans to strengthen its trade relations with Morocco. Pakistani private investors and exporters have called on the authorities to quickly consolidate inter-business ties to take advantage of the Moroccan market.
In a statement to the local press, the President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Irfan Iqbal Shaikh, noted that Pakistan’s trade deficit with Morocco has reached nearly $300 million, which is huge in the context of a total bilateral trade of around $350 million.
The official stressed that Pakistan could export many products to Morocco, including value-added textiles, fruits and vegetables, surgical products, pharmaceuticals, IT services, sporting goods or minerals.
In this regard, the President of the Pakistan-Morocco Business Council of the FPCCI, Yahya Chawla, explained that Morocco had great potential to become a major export market for Pakistan.
The Senior Vice President of the Council, Sultan Rehman, asked the Pakistani Ambassador to Morocco, Hamid Asghar Khan, to help the Pakistani business community establish links with their Moroccan counterparts, particularly with the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
