Oualidia Ranks Second in The Times’ Morocco Travel Picks, Ahead of Fez
Oualidia has emerged as a surprise pick in recommendations from the prestigious British daily The Times. The small Moroccan seaside resort ranks second among 13 selected destinations, ahead of Fez, Essaouira, Casablanca and Tangier.

Marrakech holds on to first place, but it is Oualidia that stands out. In its guide published on October 13, the Times ranks this resort on the Atlantic coast just behind the ochre city. Fez comes third, Essaouira seventh, Casablanca eighth, and Tangier rounds out the selection in thirteenth place.
Located between El Jadida and Safi, Oualidia appeals to British journalists with its protected lagoon, tranquillity and, above all, seafood. The daily describes oysters farmed in the lagoon, sea urchins and clams sold directly by fishermen, as well as freshly landed lobsters and fish. The local specialty had already caught the attention of National Geographic.
Oualidia, a destination best visited off-season
For The Times, Oualidia reveals its full charm after the summer holidaymakers have left. Visitors can enjoy long walks on the beach, lunches featuring seafood and sunsets over the Atlantic. The newspaper also warns of strong currents at low tide, particularly at the lagoon’s mouth.
The daily recommends using a stay in Oualidia as an opportunity to discover El Jadida, especially its Portuguese city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its famous underground cistern.
The 13-destination selection also includes the Sahara, the High Atlas, the Anti-Atlas, the Dadès Valley, Chefchaouen, Rabat and Tamuda Bay.
In Tangier, the final destination featured, The Times praises a city that has become more cosmopolitan and creative while retaining its bohemian charm, historic cafés and old quarters.
