Morocco Eyes More Dual-Nationality Players After Brahim Díaz Switch

The case of Brahim Diaz, who chose Morocco as his sporting nationality over Spain, could set an example. Several players of Moroccan origin could decide to join the Atlas Lions.

The Murcia region is home to many players of Moroccan origin who could follow Brahim Diaz’s example and choose to play for Morocco. This is the case of Mourad Daoudi. Born on May 27, 1998 in Balsapintada, the young striker made his debut in the youth categories of Real Murcia, but was unable to join the first team. After a brief stint at Burgos, he currently plays for Elche. Mourad has never played for the Spanish youth categories and could join Morocco, reports La verdad.

Unlike the latter, Nabil Touaizi, born on February 1, 2001 in Santomera, already has an exceptional career. The young player has already played in the youth teams of Valencia, Manchester City and Espanyol. The Hispano-Moroccan striker, who is playing this season in Atlético de Madrid’s reserve team, also participated in the U-17 European Championship with Spain, before choosing to play for Morocco during the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 U-23 friendly matches. Last year, he did not play for either country.

Rachad Fettal is another Moroccan player from Murcia. Born in Pachuca on January 16, 2005, he joined Almeria’s youth team at the age of 16 and made his first-team debut last December against Betis. The young player has already played for the lower categories of Spain (U-18) and Morocco (U-20), where he has respectively scored two goals in three matches and one goal in five matches. Playing for Atlético de Madrid (U-19), Adnane Bensaad, born on January 21, 2005, has joined the Moroccan U-20 team.

As for Hicham Khaloua, born on May 7, 1995 in San Javier, he has played in the reserve teams of Almería, Celta, Castellón, Melilla, UCAM or Cádiz. Since 2020, he has been playing in Morocco. The striker spent two seasons with Moghreb Tétouan before joining the squad of Union de Touarga in Rabat. Ismail El Harchi, born in Santomera on January 30, 1999, has also already played for Morocco. The 25-year-old player had played for Estudiantes Murcia, Ciudad de Murcia, Cartagena’s reserve team, then the American team Greensboro Spartans. He has only joined the Formentera team, a second division club, this season.
