The opening date of the "Morocco Mall" in Marrakech is known
The construction work on the new commercial complex "Morocco Mall" in Marrakech is nearing completion. Located in the tourist area of Agdal, this pharaonic project of more than one billion dirhams is expected to open to the public by next summer, after several postponements.
The construction site, launched in 2019 on the Ourika road, is now in the final stretch. While the structural work is now fully completed, the teams are currently working on the interior finishes, the landscaping, and the final aesthetic touches. This "gigantic" complex covers an area of approximately 130,000 square meters and represents a major investment for the ochre city.
The project has, however, had a bumpy journey. Initially expected for mid-2024, the delivery was delayed by the complexity of certain technical works, particularly the construction of an artificial rock and the landscaping. The Aksal group, the project owner led by Saloua Idrissi Akhannouch, now seems to have overcome these logistical challenges to meet the summer 2026 deadline.
The inauguration will nevertheless take place in a delicate economic context for the retail sector in Morocco. Between the rise in customs duties, inflation, and the decline in purchasing power, several international brands have scaled back their operations in recent years. The challenge for the Morocco Mall Marrakech will therefore be to guarantee an attractive occupancy rate from its launch, despite the pressures on the profit margins of merchants.
