TGV Kénitra-Marrakech: a key step taken for a strategic rail bridge

The high-speed rail project connecting Kénitra to Marrakech has reached a major technical milestone with the complete completion of the foundations of a strategic rail bridge. This engineering structure, considered one of the centerpieces of the project, is part of the future 430-kilometer line designed for an operating speed of 320 km/h. This large-scale project aims to strengthen the connection between the Kingdom’s largest urban hubs through state-of-the-art infrastructure.

The structure in question is 440 meters long and combines steel and concrete to meet the constraints of very high-speed travel. Its stability is ensured by a complex technical base composed of 166 drilled piles. These structures have a diameter of 1.6 meters and are driven to depths ranging from 10 to 22 meters, thus overcoming the geological challenges and specific features of the terrain.

The completion of this foundation phase is a pivotal step for the durability and safety of the bridge. Compliance with quality standards and deadlines during these works reflects the precision of the technical supervision of the project. The construction site will now focus on the realization of the upper structure of the work, including the installation of the decks to finalize this strategic infrastructure.

The second stage of the Moroccan plan to extend high-speed rail, the Kénitra–Marrakech HSL must connect Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech, while providing access to the two airports. The trains, announced at up to 350 km/h, will significantly reduce travel times: one hour between Tangier and Rabat, 1 hour 40 minutes to Casablanca and 2 hours 40 minutes to Marrakech.

The work was officially launched by King Mohammed VI, at the Rabat-Agdal station, for a 430-kilometer project estimated at 53 billion dirhams (5.3 billion dollars).
