Online Romance Scam: Moroccan Man Extorts €9,000 from Vulnerable French Woman

After flirting with a 40-year-old French woman in psychological distress via a website, a Moroccan took advantage of her to extort €9,000 from her.
The woman is a coach by profession. The man presents himself as a jeweler. Their relationship, which will have lasted like a flash in the pan, begins in February. "The jeweler" makes her understand that he had to go to Morocco - with his children - to honor a large order, reports L’Est Républicain. It was a question of going to look for precious stones.
He calls his "new girlfriend" in a panic on February 24 and makes her believe that he was blocked at customs where "corrupt" police officers were demanding a large sum of money, according to the same source. Doubtful, she did not believe this story. The second call convinced her. Her "lover" puts a supposed commissioner on the phone. He demands €3,000 to "get the famous jeweler out of prison". In the end, a sum of €9,000 was extorted from this resident of the Toulois between February 24 and 29.
The last call from her "suitor" will be the straw that broke the camel’s back. He demanded €36,000 from her. Annoyed, she cut off all communication with "her man".
This week, she filed a complaint at the Toul police station.
