Jeweler Sentenced to 12 Years for Buying King Mohammed VI’s Stolen Watches

Accused of receiving stolen goods following the acquisition of 11 luxury watches belonging to King Mohammed VI, a jeweler in Fez was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the courts.
According to the daily Assabah, the man would have been deceived by the lover of the maid who worked at the royal palace. He made him believe that the watches came from the United Arab Emirates.
The jeweler will be reported by the two receivers during the interrogation of the national brigade of the judicial police in Casablanca. According to the latter, he had paid the price of the 11 watches by making several payments of 40,000 dirhams.
The man knew he was wanted by the police. He first refused to respond to summons from the judicial police. He then turned off his cell phone and cut off all contact with his family and friends. It was in Taounate that he was finally apprehended, following a national arrest warrant. Investigators suspect him of being one of the five main instigators of the theft.
A few weeks ago, the court of first instance had sentenced 15 other individuals involved in the same case to prison terms ranging from four to fifteen years. The case of the jeweler will be re-examined on June 24 by the Court of Appeal of Rabat.
