Olympic Legend El Guerrouj Runs Gabon Marathon to Inspire Youth Athletes
Hicham El Guerrouj participated in the 10 km event at the Gabon marathon to promote the values of sport.
The former double Olympic champion of the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters, Hicham El Guerrouj, will have marked this edition of which he was the sponsor.
In a statement to MAP, he justified his participation by saying that he wants to give hope and set an example for young people. According to the former double champion, this type of event helps encourage the practice of sport and popularize the discipline of athletics among young people.
Hicham El Guerrouj also gave his opinion on the 5km event, dedicated to women. His goal is to raise awareness about the fight against cancer and encourage early screening.
The Moroccan athlete reiterated his support for all people affected by this disease. "Sport is an important factor in significantly reducing the risk of illness and encouraging a healthy lifestyle," he said.
It should be noted that the 10 km event was won by the Gabonese trio Mouele Kodo Djessy, Opana Lendengue Marius and Mayombo Jordy.
